I wasn't able to find an equivalent of what you watched in class today.

As some of you had their test they couldn't write these sentences.

1/ Re-order the sentences
2/ Find the correct date.

You can visit different sites ...

1- Abraham Lincoln was elected President of the United States

2- Jesse Jackson, a black Democrat, ran for president of the US

3- Slavery was abolished

4- The Blacks could vote

5- The Civil Rights Act was passed (1965 )

6- The Dutch brought the first black slaves to America
Ports of the Transatlantic slave trade

7- The Secession War (Civil War) opposed the Confederate States (South) and the Union (North)

If you want to have an idea of what it was like to be a slave, read Sarah Francis Shaw Graves's testimony
. It is deeply moving.

Have a good evening! See you tomorrow.

Good luck !

The Ramayana is mentioned in the text you are studying at the moment. Here are some information in French about it.

I, too, sing America.

I am the darker brother.
They send me to eat in the kitchen
When company comes,
But I laugh,
And eat well,
And grow strong.

Tomorrow,
I'll be at the table
When company comes.
Nobody'll dare
Say to me,
'Eat in the kitchen,'
Then.

Besides,
They'll see how beautiful I am
And be ashamed -

I, too, am American.

A poem by Langston Hughes
